Vision: Positive Mental Health & Wellbeing for all
Mission: Enable people to choose change
MIND India, Institute of Positive Mental Health & Research, is an independent not-for-profit organization, established on January 20, 2006 at Guwahati, Assam with special focus on the North East region of India, comprising of the 8 States of Arunachal Pradesh, Assam, Manipur, Meghalaya, Mizoram, Nagaland, Tripura and Sikkim. In face of the effects of the rapid technological advances which has telescoped developmental milestones both at the individual as well as collective levels, the need today is to restructure our belief system to look afresh at placing mental and emotional well-being alongside physical health, and not merely as a far removed corollary of “good physical health”. Thus MIND India has been founded to address the necessity of result oriented, broad based positive mental health action. The primary focus is on mitigation of individual issues through counselling, psycho-social interventions and building capacity of manpower at different levels for healing and personal growth.
Based on the above premises of holistic care and evidence based intervention, MIND India Wellness Centre aims to offer various services through a well-established multi- disciplinary team of experts of Counselling Psychologist, Clinical Psychologist, Psychiatrist, Remedial Special Educator, Speech therapist, Arts based therapist, Physiotherapist, Music Therapy, Yoga Practitioner, Ayurveda specialist and Mindfulness Practitioner.
The Child and Adolescent Mental Health Services (CAMHS) of MIND India Wellness Centre particularly focuses to augment the holistic development of a child and support schools in specific services needed, especially for Children with disabilities. Children with disabilities (Learning disability, Autism Spectrum, ADHD) are one of the most marginalized and excluded groups in society. Facing daily discrimination in the form of negative attitudes, lack of adequate policies and legislation, they are effectively barred from realizing their rights to healthcare, education, and even survival. Many schools are not being able to accommodate children with disabilities due to lack of skilled educators and therapists. Therefore, the broader aim of inclusive education gets excluded. Moreover, in adolescents, Physical changes associated with puberty are triggered by hormones, Cognitive changes include improvements in complex and abstract thought, as well as development that happens at different rates in distinct parts of the brain and increase in adolescents’ propensity for risky behaviour to Adolescents’ relationships with parents which goes through a period of redefinition could prove to be a challenging phase for school teachers, parents and caregivers.
Keeping this in mind, the CAMHS services of MIND India Wellness Centre have been introduced in order to bridge this gap and facilitating schools with the required services. The CAMHS services includes Remedial programmes, Special education, Speech therapy, Behaviour therapy, Occupational therapy, Physiotherapy, Expressive Arts Therapy, Adolescent workshops, Share circles, Group Counselling etc.
